The interim government has extended the holiday for Durga Puja by two days. An executive order declaring a general holiday on Thursday (October 10) has been issued.
This announcement was made by the Ministry of Public Administration on Tuesday (October 8). While a two-day holiday has been declared for Durga Puja, government employees will effectively enjoy a total of four days off, as the weekend falls on Friday and Saturday.
Earlier on Tuesday, Mahfuz Alam, a special assistant to the Chief Adviser, mentioned that the proclamation would be issued by the end of the day. He noted that there had been longstanding demands from the Hindu community to extend the holiday for Durga Puja, as they celebrate from Shashthi to Dashami. This year, Dashami falls on a day that precedes the weekend, prompting the government to extend the holiday by one day to Thursday (October 10) to provide more time for celebrations.
Mahfuz Alam also stated that there are conspiracies aimed at increasing the distance between the government and minority communities. However, the government remains vigilant on this matter. He assured that actions would be taken regarding the security concerns raised by the minority community, and a decision has been made to compensate the affected families.
