In Sujanagar, Pabna, a member of the Jubo League has been arrested in connection with the vandalism of idols at a Durga temple. The arrest took place on Sunday (October 6) at a residential boarding house in the Goalanda Ghat area of Rajbari, as confirmed by Pabna Superintendent of Police Md. Mortaza Ali Khan.
During a press conference on Monday (October 7), he stated that the arrested individual, Bachchu Alamgir, also known as “Agun Bachchu” (34), is the son of Lokman Hossain Pramanik from the Mosjidpara area of Sujanagar municipality. He is known locally as a Jubo League cadre.
The incidents of idol vandalism occurred on the night of October 1 at the Manikdi Palpara Durga temple and on September 28 at the Nishipara Durga temple. Following the vandalism, Bijon Kumar Pal, the president of the Manikdi Palpara temple committee, filed a case at the Sujanagar police station.
After the incident, the Superintendent of Police inspected the area and instructed the urgent arrest of those involved while enhancing security in the locality. As a result of the vandalism at the two Durga temples in Nishipara and Palpara, Sujanagar police station’s Officer-in-Charge (OC) Sakiul Azam was withdrawn on October 2, and Golam Mustafa was appointed as the new OC of Sujanagar police station.
