A discussion meeting and exchange of greetings for the Durga Puja festival were held between leaders of the Hindu, Buddhist, Christian Unity Council and the leaders of the Patgram Upazila branch of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, including puja celebration leaders from all unions of the upazila.
On Wednesday, October 9, the meeting was organized by Sri Anup Kumar Liton, leader of the Puja Celebration Council, conducted by Ajit Ranjan Roy, and chaired by Babu Ratan Kumar Saha, president of the Hindu, Buddhist, Christian Unity Council of Patgram Upazila. Representatives from 29 Puja committees in Patgram gathered for the meeting.
In the meeting, Jamaat leaders who spoke included Anwarul Islam Raju, Chairman of the Hatibandha-Patgram Development Forum and the Jamaat-e-Islami candidate for the Lalmonirhat-1 (Hatibandha-Patgram) parliamentary seat, Central Majlis-e-Shura member and district Amir of Lalmonirhat, Professor Ataur Rahman, popular municipal Jamaat leader Sohel Rana, and Jamaat leaders Maulana Shamsul Haque, Sohrab Ali, Monowar Hossain Liton, Fazal Mahmud, and Islami Chhatra Shibir Upazila President Al-Mamgir Khorshed.
The Jamaat leaders urged the Hindu community to celebrate all rituals and worship of the Durga Puja festival without fear or worry.
In his keynote speech, Jamaat leader Raju said that if Jamaat-e-Islami were given the opportunity to hold state power, the government would take responsibility for all security of the Hindu community.
